Great images await

With 24.3 megapixels, the α7’s 35mm full-frame Exmor™ sensor rivals that of leading DSLRs. And with Sony’s latest BIONZ X processor and most advanced autofocus, the α7 offers outstanding detail, sensitivity, and quality. Get ready for performance that will propel your photography to new heights.

24.3MP Full Frame sensor

This remarkable new sensor has all the elements for world-class images:
high-resolution, top sensitivity, extreme dynamic range, unsurpassed detail, and low noise.

Superior processing
Expect superlative results with Sony's latest processing engine, BIONZ X™: truer color rendering, better noise reduction, and faster burst mode shooting.

Beauty starts here

Get up close with the world-class Exmor sensor

A series of advances make this full-frame Exmor™ sensor exceptional: higher speed from parallel signal processing, lower noise from smaller analog circuits, and more rapid signal conversion. With low noise, a wider dynamic range, and rich gradations, this sensor provides the level of detail necessary even for large-format prints.
 BIONZ X PROCESSOR

Natural results in any light

What makes Sony’s latest processor our best? Enhanced detail reproduction and diffraction-reducing technology produce more natural outlines, and reduce blur from light points, especially at smaller apertures. Advanced area-specific noise reduction operates on every image, and with 16-bit processing and 14-bit RAW output, professionals can enjoy ultimate post-processing control.

Expert engineering from every angle

In designing the a7, Sony strove to balance the precise control working photographers need, with the ergonomics they want. The result is carefully-crafted knobs and dials, robust functions, extensive customization potential, and recording and connectivity options, all in a durable, lightweight body 25% smaller than leading DSLRs.
Full frame, compact form
At just 14.67 oz with battery, the α7 is about half the weight of leading DSLRs. And being less bulky as well, there’s no more giving up quality for portability.

Built light, built to last
Crafting the α7 from magnesium, the world’s lightest structural metal, means that the camera you carry with you today will also be with you tomorrow.

Where speed meets precision

Sony’s most advance autofocus ever, the α7 combines the speed of phase detection (with 117 focus points) and the accuracy of contrast detection. The refined Spatial Object Detection Algorithm gives an AF speed with the world’s fastest cameras. Additional enhancements include more accurate eye detection, lock-on autofocus for moving subjects, and autofocus area setting options.

Stop the action beautifully

New faster, more accurate autofocus tracking uses powerful predictive algorithms and subject recognition technology to track every move with greater speed and precision.

New Eye Autofocus

For perfect portraiture, this function creates sharp focus on faces even when partially turned away from the camera with a shallow depth of field, thanks to enhanced eye detection that can prioritize a single pupil.

Lock-on Autofocus

Easily keep moving subjects in focus with this updated technology, which adjusts target frame size based on subject characteristics and makes use of a wide AF area to ensure usage of the optimal focus point.

Autofocus setting options

With the Flexible Spot AF area setting, you can select different-size autofocus area to match your subject, and help ensure the camera focuses on the intended area. Wide and Zone focus area settings are also available.
XGA OLED TRU-FINDER™

Smarter viewfinder, better photos

With 100% frame coverage, 1024x768 resolution, high contrast, real-time settings updates, and accurate bokeh, the OLED (XGA) Tru-Finder™ is not merely a composition accessory, but an enhancement. Completing the professional-grade features are five display modes and color temperature and brightness adjustment.

Clear subjects, compelling stories

The advantage of accurate bokeh display

Unlike a traditional optical viewfinder (OVF), which distorts bokeh through the focusing screen, Sony’s electronic viewfinder (EVF) presents the image directly from the sensor, so you see exactly what the finished image will be. Change your f-stop? You’ll see the depth of field shift in the viewfinder.

Zoom in on what’s important

Go from evaluating after, to perfecting before

Leading DSLRs allow you to zoom in on the LCD screen to check your images after the shot, but with the Tru-Finder™, you can make these adjustments before and during the process. So instead of wondering what you got, you can capture what you want.

Fine-tune your focus

Peaking function for precise details

Need instant confirmation of the most sharply-focused areas of your image? Activate the built-in peaking function, which can be adjusted in sensitivity and highlight color to best suit individual preferences.

Composition without guesswork

See exposure adjustments before you shoot

Cameras with traditional viewfinders have forced photographers to glance down at their LCD screen after each shot, or shooting in bunches to bracket a correct exposure. But no more: with the Tru-Finder™, see exposure adjustments before you shoot—and never take your eye off the subject.

Full HD video formats

Find the perfect expression for your vision with AVCHD at 60fps for an ultra-smooth look, or shoot 24p for classic cinema feel.

Professional soundtracks

Attach external microphones via the XLR adaptor, meter recording levels, and monitor sound with the headphone jack.

NEW LENSES, NEW POSSIBILITIES

Glass worthy of a first-class camera

To enable photographers to explore the limits of the α7’s unrivaled potential, Sony designed a new set of E-mount lenses precisely for the internal geometries of the new full-frame range. In addition, previous-generation α owners can use the full range of E-mount lenses, or A-mounts with an adaptor for a professional range of 50+ lenses.

ONE TOUCH NFC & WI-FI CONNECTIVITY

Share something great

The α7 has two forms of wireless sharing capability built in; NFC One-touch allows image transfer with a single tap to any NFC-compatible smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Wi-Fi® allows quick uploading from many locations.
